What happens next

From your match to a working heat pump

Switch Together helps make heat pumps more accessible and affordable through group buying. Now that you've been matched with NCS, here's how things work from here.

  1. 1

    Your package price

Switch Together sends you package prices for your home. There's no obligation to go ahead.

  2. 2

You're passed to NCS for your survey

If you're happy with the price and want to go ahead, Switch Together passes you to us as your installer. One of our surveyors then visits your home to confirm the right system for it. You can contact our team at any point from here if you have a question.

  3. 3

    Design and grant application

If you decide to go ahead, we design your system around your home and apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant on your behalf.

  4. 4

    Installation and handover

Our own team installs and commissions your heat pump, then hands it over and shows you how to use the controls so you're comfortable running it.

  5. 5

    Aftercare

Once it's in, we're on hand for servicing and for any questions about getting the best from your new system.

Getting ready

Preparing for your home survey

The survey is how we make sure your heat pump is the right size and in the right place for your home. A little preparation helps it go smoothly and means you get more out of the visit.

What our surveyor will look at

  • Each room and its radiators, to work out how much heat your home needs
  • Where the outdoor unit could go, with enough space around it for air to flow
  • Space for a hot water cylinder, or whether your existing one can be used
  • Your electrics, including your fuse board
  • Your current heating system and how it's piped

What's useful to have ready

  • A recent utility bill. It helps us to see how you use energy now and may be needed for the grant application.
  • Clear access to your loft, airing cupboard and boiler
  • Your questions. Jot them down beforehand so nothing gets missed on the day.
Your questions

Questions homeowners ask us

If your question isn't here, send it to us using the form below and our team will get back to you.

Do I have to go ahead once I've been matched?

No. Your offer comes with no obligation, so you can take the time you need to decide and ask us anything before you do.

Will I need new radiators?

Not always. Heat pumps heat your home at a lower, steadier temperature than a boiler, so some rooms may need a larger radiator to stay comfortable. The survey works this out room by room, and any changes needed are set out before you decide.

Do I need a hot water cylinder?

Yes. A heat pump heats your water and stores it in a cylinder, rather than heating it on demand like a combi boiler. If you don't have one, or yours isn't suitable, your survey will look at where a new one could go.

Will a heat pump keep my home warm in winter?

Yes. Air source heat pumps keep drawing heat from the outside air even when it's below freezing. Your system is sized at the survey so it can heat your home on the coldest days of the year.

How does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant work?

It's a government grant towards the cost of replacing your current heating system with a heat pump. We apply for it on your behalf, so there's no separate application for you to make, and you don't need an EPC to qualify. We'll gather what the application needs when we visit, and may just ask you for a recent utility bill.

Not registered with Switch Together yet?Registration for the scheme is only through the Switch Together website, so we're not able to sign you up ourselves.
